Meet Melanie, Residential Customer Service Manager

Able Moving & Storage

Melanie Taylor Bounds is the customer service manager of the residential department at Able Moving & Storage. She is a fantastic leadership team member focused on creating a positive culture within Able.  Along with setting expectations for our customers for our teams to provide the best move possible, Melanie guides us with empathy and compassion while overseeing the customer service team and their growth within the company. She also manages customer satisfaction for all our residential services, including local & long-distance moving and move management for seniors.

We sat down with Melanie and discussed the moving industry and her experience:

  • How long have you been with Able, and what were you doing before you joined the company?
I have been with Able for 6 years. Before coming here, I worked in the telecommunications industry and gained experience in a variety of roles. I eventually made my way to sales and then took a job in the moving customer care team at Interstate Van Lines. Fun fact: My voice was the voice of Dulles and National Airports for many years!
  • What is your current role? Have you held past positions?
I am the Customer Service Manager for our Residential COD moving division, oversee our claims department as well as sales support analytics, and help manage a few additional internal projects that keep us moving. What I love about my current position is seeing the recognition our crews and employees get on reviews and shoutouts. The best part of the job is hearing that customers had a great move with Able and seeing them give credit to the entire Able team from beginning to end!

  • What do you like most about working in the moving industry?
Assisting customers through a very stressful time in their lives – moving!  Our processes are solid and our employee training and passion for others is key to our success!

  • What do you enjoy most about working at Able?
I think the people are what makes Able so great. The owners have a mentality of “If we don’t take care of our employees, someone else will,” and they truly live up to that ideal. Our strong leadership team and our commitment to work-life balance are vital to employees’ and corporate health and growth. We look to grow from within and strengthen people’s skills and abilities. Our opinions and ideas are valued as employees, and we are encouraged to ask questions. Leadership is supportive and flexible. As a working mother, Able gave me the support and structure to be successful professionally yet never miss one of my children’s games.

  • What are some hobbies or activities you like to do?
In my free time, I walk—I just completed the Shamrock half-marathon with my family and friends in Virginia Beach over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. I also played basketball in college and still love the sport. March Madness is one of my favorite times of the year—I always root for the underdogs!

  • What is the best career advice you live by or try to give to others?
My number one is to always be on time. The second is to stress the importance of believing in yourself and finding good mentors. The third is to be a team player and hold yourself accountable. Lead by example and listen first, speak second.
